October 31st is the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows’ Day, and better known as Halloween.
Although Halloween celebrations have been going on for thousands of years, it has only taken off in recent times in New Zealand.
In the Northern Hemisphere it is the last day of Fall (Autumn) so common symbols and themes include making pumpkins into Jack-O-Lanterns, bobbing for apples and roasting hazelnuts.

Being in the Southern Hemisphere, Halloween is out-of-season for us, but we still celebrate this ‘holiday’ with the traditional practice of Trick or Treating.  This started as a customary pastime for children, who would go in costume from house to house, asking for treats such as candy or sometimes money, with the question, “Trick or treat?” The word “trick” implies a “threat” to perform mischief on the homeowners or their property if no treat is given.

Costumes are a vital part of Halloween, and the more frightening the better!  Although these days anything goes!  The more traditional costumes include supernatural figures such as vampires, monsters, ghosts, skeletons, witches, and devils.  Modern day costume selection has extended to include popular characters from fiction, celebrities, and generic archetypes such as ninjas and princesses.

A must have accessory for your Halloween costume, of course, are tights.  There are many different options out there, including catsuits with skeleton designs, tights with skulls, bats, cats, cobwebs and other scary patterns on them.  But we think the best accessory to wear with your Halloween costume is a pair of fishnet tights. As well as being black, they go with almost anything, and the best part is they are currently in fashion!  So no need to splash out on a pair of tights that you are never going to wear again.  Simply purchase a moderately priced pair of fishnet tights to make you look super sexy and scary on Halloween night, then wash and wear again, and again!
